Dutch startups and scale-ups saw significant growth in investments during the past year.
According to a report from DSA (Dutch Startup Association), €5.3B was invested in 2021 in Dutch startups, compared to €1.7B in 2020. The trend is likely to continue in 2022 as there is a lot of interest in Dutch startups and scaleups, especially from foreign investors, adds the report.

Dutch-founded tech companies are also responsible for creating 44,000 jobs, while international companies, including Tesla, Amazon, and Netflix, are linked to 34,000 new positions.
Amsterdam startups are creating more positions in various functional areas. The number of people employed by Amsterdam’s startup sector continues to grow.
Several Amsterdam-based startups also raised funding in January, 2022, and are now actively looking for fresh talents. Here is a list of nine such startups.
Leyden Labs

Leyden Labs is developing intranasal medicines to stop viruses before they infect the lungs. The Dutch startup utilises its platform to target commonalities of viral families and protect humanity from known and future viruses.

Hello Mentor

Based out of Amsterdam, Hello Mentor is a recruitment platform that connects tech students with mentors from tech companies such as Adyen, ING, ASML, and PwC.
The company was born out of co-founder Quincy Dalh’s desire to bridge the gap in students’ transition from study to work. Last month, the company raised €25k from ASIF Venture to accelerate product development.

The company aims to give humans the power to understand what models are doing and correct automated decisions. These features ensure that AI systems are accountable. In January, the Amsterdam company raised €0.8M from new VC firm Curiosity.

Origin is an Amsterdam-based software company that provides personalised trip planning services. The company claims to be reshaping the travel industry by providing individual and personalised trips. The membership travel company uses the knowledge of human travel experts and then powers their trip curation with machine learning in one app.
The company raised €4.36M in its Seed round of funding led by Berlin-based venture capital and private equity firm Project A, last month.

Winc Academy

Winc Academy offers online courses for anyone to learn in-demand digital skills. According to the company, the self-paced courses with personal mentoring are designed to be combined with work or private life and prepare learners for a career as a developer, data analyst, and other in-demand tech jobs.
The average age of the student enrolling for the course is 35 years, claims the company. The course duration ranges from several weeks to 6 months full time, with an average tuition fee of €2,500. Winc Academy raised €2.6M in a Seed round of funding led by Rubio Impact Ventures and Dutch Founders Fund.

The app aims to eliminate all the side tasks for researchers in a lab, like documentation, concentration calculations, and others. Last month, the company raised €25k in pre-seed funding from ASIF Ventures.
Redistri

Redistri is a platform that connects shippers with carriers and combines less than truckloads to increase carrier revenue/decrease shipping costs. The company’s founders call this a carpooling for truck shipments. The Amsterdam company has raised €25k in pre-seed funding from ASIF Ventures.
The Pure Goat Company

The Amsterdam company aims to provide an alternative to cow’s milk-based baby formula. The organically certified formulas of the company are made with full cream goat milk from The Netherlands. According to the company, crucial nutrients have been added to support healthy growth and development, including GOS fibres and Omega-3 DHA from Algae.
The Pure Goat Company has secured €1.3M funding from a group of various investors, including FLEM global trading.
Bilihome

The Amsterdam company is delivering a new approach to jaundice care for newborns. Bilihome aims to provide an ordinary-looking romper or vest for newborns, which enables natural care and free bonding during jaundice therapy in the first week of life.
Last month, the company has secured funding from Health Innovations and Oost NL to support the market launch of a smart, wearable light therapy device for jaundice. However, the company didn’t disclose the exact funding figures.
