After Series A extension in August, German fintech startup Moss enters Dutch market

For many companies, employee expense management is a constant problem, mainly caused by lengthy internal approval processes and the prevalent manual linking of expenses and receipts. Finance teams are looking for new capabilities to efficiently manage employee spending. This is where Berlin-based credit card fintech company Moss steps in.

Moss is a payment and credit card platform that enables companies to optimise their finances. The startup’s mission is “to digitise the expense management of small and medium-sized businesses and help them tap into their full potential.”

Moss expands to Netherlands

In a recent development, the Berlin-based fintech company has announced its expansion to the Dutch market. The high digitisation and automation of financial processes in the Netherlands make it an ideal market for this next step in the company’s international expansion plan.

With Moss, the Netherlands will get a complete solution for payment card spend management issues that finance teams face today.

Speaking about the market launch in the Netherlands, CEO and co-founder Ante Spittler says, “We know from numerous conversations with customers that many Dutch SMEs are looking forward to our solution. There is a strong desire in the Dutch market to further digitalise and automate financial processes. With our complete solution, we want to help Dutch companies realise their full potential.”

To grow the Dutch market, the company has hired David Soos as country manager. Soos was formerly a director at Signify, once a subsidiary of Philips.

Soos says, “I am looking forward to the new challenge and to being able to actively shape an entire industry, but especially such a promising company as Moss. My goal is to expand our position on the Dutch market in the long term and sustainably.”

This expansion news for Moss comes about a year after the company’s official product launch in Germany, and just three months after a Series A extension funding round of €25M.

A complete solution for spending

Moss was founded in 2020 by Ante Spittler, Anton Rummel, Ferdinand Meyer, and Stephan Haslebacher. The platform enables startups, tech companies, and SMEs to issue employee and team credit cards, and manage all company spending using the Moss software platform that is powered by a proprietary card issuing and risk engine.

Finance teams maintain complete control by having full visibility into transactions made, pre-approving purchases, and adjusting all cards and limits in real-time. Additionally, all expenses can be documented with receipts and assigned to cost centres. At the end of the month, all data can be transferred to any accounting software via user-defined exports.

With Moss, users can identify trends in spending behaviour, track changes from month to month, and identify unnecessary expenses and thus save time and money.

Moss continuing on its growth path

The investment from the latest financing round in August is being used by Moss, among other things, to tap into the European market.

Daan Matthes, Head of Sales Netherlands, is optimistic about the successful market launch in the Netherlands. He says, “We encounter an innovation-friendly market environment here with numerous digital-savvy SMEs and a thriving startup scene. Dutch organisations traditionally attach great importance to a stable financial foundation. That’s exactly what Moss’ platform enables, giving finance teams full visibility in real-time and managing all corporate expenses in one place.”

Since its inception, more than 8,500 credit cards (both physical and virtual) have been issued and over 100,000 transactions have been processed. Currently, Flink, Auto1 and Grover, among others, use Moss.
