‘s India arm is set to commence the 8th edition of its two-day Prime Day on July 20 and 21, offering discounts on smartphones, consumer electronics, TVs, appliances, fashion and beauty, home and kitchen, furniture, and more.
Over 450 top Indian and global brands including Intel, Samsung, OnePlus, Honor, HP, Asus, Titan, Hisense, Trident, Acer, Lenovo, American Tourister, Plantex, Oneplus, Ethos Group, Voltas, Fossil, Mokobara, HUL, ITC, P&G, and Himalaya are poised to list their newly launched products.
“For sellers, Prime Day is crucial as it offers them a platform to increase visibility and sales. Amazon aims to democratise benefits across categories and cities, with a significant customer base from tier II and tier III cities joining Prime,” stated Akshay Sahi, Head of Amazon Prime, Delivery and Returns Experiences, India and Emerging Markets.
“The focus remains on reliability in deliveries and customer trust, ensuring high accuracy in delivery estimates and quick resolutions for any issues,” he added.
Additionally, Amazon Pay is introducing hotel and flight booking experiences for small and medium businesses, offering special prices on flights, hotels, homestays, and villas.
With Amazon Pay UPI, Amazon Pay ICICI Credit Card, and more, consumers will get extra benefits like a 10% instant discount with ICICI Bank debit or credit card.
“Amazon Prime, launched in India in 2016, initially offered free fast shipping, followed by Prime Video and Prime Music. Over time, it expanded to include faster delivery, exclusive deals on Prime Day, and Amazon Pay services for travel and other purchases,” Sahi said.
Last year’s Prime Day saw the highest number of Prime members shopping ever, with 14% more shopping compared with 2022. A peak of 22,190 orders were placed by Prime members in a single minute—the highest for a Prime Day event.
The platform achieved its highest-ever number of same-day deliveries, with one in three orders in metros and one in two orders in Tier I and II cities delivered in under two days. Prime members collectively saved approximately Rs 300 crore during the event.
The company reported a profit of $10.4 billion for Q1 2024, up from $3.2 billion in Q1 2021, due to growth in AWS, retail, and ads businesses, compared to the previous year’s sales of $127.4 billion.
While Amazon Prime Day is the biggest ecommerce sale event in India, Flipkart, Meesho and Myntra also host their own sale festivals to compete for a share of the lucrative online shopping market, especially during the festive season.
