US-based tech giant Apple looks to start manufacturing iPhone 14 in India. It has been working along with Indian suppliers to boost the manufacturing of iPhone 14 and shorten the current production timeline of six to nine months.

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is shifting iPhone 14’s manufacturing from China owing to ongoing geopolitical tensions between the US and China and also, the Chinese government imposing a lockdown across the nation that is halting business operations there.

At present, Apple is already manufacturing iPhone 13 in India at the manufacturing plant of its partners–Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron. Earlier this year, it also set a target of manufacturing iPhones worth INR 47, 000 Cr in India in the fiscal year 2022-23.

Talking about the manufacturing of iPhone 14, analysts anticipate that Apple would ship the latest iPhones from India and China probably at the same time. Besides, sources quoted that Foxconn has learnt the process of shipping iPhone components from China and later assembling those devices in India.

It was further informed that iPhone 14 manufacturing in India will likely be completed by late October or November after the initial release in September. Both the companies are aiming to complete the manufacturing by Diwali.

The development comes at a time when Apple has increased its shipments to India. According to Counterpoint’s report, Apple has recorded a 50% YoY surge in its laptop and PC shipments to Indian enterprises in the first half of 2022.

Today, Apple’s top executives along with other tech giants are meeting a parliamentary panel to confer on issues related to anti-competitive practices taken by these global tech giants in the digital realm.

In the previous month, Apple stated that it clocked a double-digit revenue in India in the June quarter of FY22-23.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook had said, “We saw June quarter revenue records in both developed and emerging markets with very strong double-digit growth in Brazil, Indonesia, and Vietnam and a near doubling of revenue in India.”

Meanwhile, as per a CyberMedia Research report, the tech giant sold over 1.2 Mn iPhones in India in Q2 2022, recording a 94% YoY growth. The report stated that the sales were mainly led by iPhone 12 and iPhone13.

During the said timeline, the tech giant also shipped close to 1 Mn shipments that were originally manufactured in India.
