Indian startups are growing faster than ever before after a record-breaking 2021, but we think 2022 will be even greater as startups continue to disrupt industries and create new models
Scheduled for April 22 and April 23, 2022, the second edition of The Makers Summit is presented by Inc42 in association with Searce and Google Cloud, and is powered by Simpl
TMS 2022 will bring together the brightest minds behind India’s fastest-growing product companies — 5,000+ product founders, leaders and makers, 75+ speakers and over 50 sessions
India’s startup economy has gone from a $130 Bn market in 2018 to $400 Bn in 2021. Indian startups are growing faster than ever before, and in terms of new business opportunities and funding, 2021 changed the game.
With over $42 Bn raised across 1,583 deals and 42 new unicorns, India saw a new unicorn startup every nine days last year, overall funding raised by Indian startups since 2014 has now gone past $120 Bn after the first two months of 2022.
At the same time, the Indian market saw an unprecedented number of tech startups for IPOs. Zomato, Paytm, Policybazaar, Nykaa were among 11 startups that went public in 2021. This further indicated the growing maturity and acceptability of tech products in India.
But we think 2022 will be even greater, and we are not talking about funding but startups capitalising on the momentum and disrupting industry after industry, just as they have done in the past half-decade.
Over the past two pandemic years, we have seen new business models emerge that were laughed at before — the likes of 10-minute delivery platforms, homegrown social media ad short video platforms, novel buy-now-pay-later and investment tech models, NFT and metaverse applications, super apps for edtech and ecommerce and more. All these will shine in the afterglow of 2021, and 2022 will be the year when products take a generational leap forward.

“Startups are agile businesses and the flexibility and scalability of cloud services are uniquely suited to help these companies. Capabilities such as AI, ML, analytics, and containers are increasingly becoming foundational for startups today. The cloud enables startups to quickly spin up new collaboration tools for new hires, spin services up or down depending on their day-to-day needs, manage costs to keep investors happy, and launch new products at global scale, quickly. Being on the cloud helps them be in a better position to innovate and deliver transformational solutions,” says Bikram S Bedi, managing director, Google Cloud, India
