OneWelcome, a Dutch Identity and Access Management Saas platform, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Scaled Access, a Belgium-based security tech company that offers access management solutions.
OneWelcome was formed by the merger of iWelcome and Onegini in 2021. With the acquisition of Scaled Access, OneWelcome is poised to deepen its offering with fine-grained and policy-based access.
These are the women in science of the Amsterdam startup ecosystem.
Fine-grained access control is a method of controlling who can access certain data. It uses highly nuanced and variable methods for allowing access.
A platform for advanced access management
Founded in 2009 by Ward Duchamps, Scaled Access offers an automated access solution that delegates access administration to users. Its cloud platform authorises consumers and teams to access and share protected content, data, or devices, all by themselves.
Fine-grained access is automatically provided in real-time based on the access policy in place. Scaled Access deploys a unique authorisation model that uses attributes, context and relationships to map out permissions.
The company’s rule-engine and graph database can handle an unlimited number of relationships and is not impacted by the number of people, parties, resources, or applications that customers want to provide authorisation for.
Currently, Scaled Access serves over 30 million users and specialises in providing access management for media, finance, software, healthcare, and IoT.
Aim of this acquisition
Currently, organisations are facing complexity in granting access to external identities. Who the person is, what they are and what they are entitled to, are some of the foundational attributes for fine-grained and policy-based access.
To onboard new users, information is required from three main sources: European eIDs or Bank IDs, Identity Wallets, and validated attribute providers. OneWelcome helps organisations orchestrate this.
Danny de Vreeze, CEO OneWelcome, says, “With the acquisition of Scaled Access, we are deepening and broadening our offering to form a superior integrated identity solution for managing external identities. This is how we are going to capitalise on the doubling of demand that Gartner has predicted for this year. In addition, we are strengthening our competitive position against American players because, as a European party, we are now even better able to deal with European complexities.”
OneWelcome is deepening its offering with fine-grained and policy-based access. This means organisations can now manage and control access of consumers, business partners and remote workers to their online services and apps in an even more granular manner.
OneWelcome also adds an additional Identity app to its OneWelcome IAM platform: Externalised Authorisation. It is the fifth application of OneWelcome’s integrated IAM platform. The other four applications are User Journey Orchestration, Consent & Preference Management, Delegation & Relationship Management, and Mobile Identity.
This acquisition will provide OneWelcome with extra development capacity and increase its innovative strength. The Scaled Access team in Belgium will be further expanded as an engineering unit and knowledge centre.
Ward Duchamps, CEO Scaled Access, adds, “OneWelcome provides an optimal framework to further develop our platform. We want to be ahead of the market with the integration of distributed identity and verifiable credentials in the user journey. People will build their own digital twins, ‘wallets’, by collecting accreditations confirmed by issuers and granting companies access to use them. Access to a digital service will no longer solely depend on using the right password or fingerprint, but also on the verified characteristics you carry.”
A cloud identity platform
From Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to cloud scalability, OneWelcome offers a robust set of tools that helps companies to give end-users access to their digital properties.
OneWelcome was formed in 2021 by Danny de Vreeze and Jeroen Starrenburg. It is a cloud-based identity and access management (IAM) for external user groups. Its IAM platform enables organisations to provide external identities with secure and easy access to their online services and apps. The company says that it has over 80 million people who use the platform every day. The user groups are consumers (b2c), business ecosystems (b2b) and external workers (gig workers).
Over a hundred clients rely on the identity and access management expertise of OneWelcome, claims the company. These are organisations operating in dynamic and regulated industries, such as VodafoneZiggo, European Central Bank, Admiral Insurance, Damen Shipyards, and Baloise.
Currently, the company has nearly 120 employees in the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, and Romania.
