Google said it is now experimenting with Gemini-powered video search in India at its Google for India event. This feature enables users to shoot a small snippet and ask Gemini questions about it.
Users, who would be part of this experiment, will be able to use this feature in Google Lens. The video search features are limited to English language queries on mobile at the moment.
The company said that users would need to enroll to “AI Overviews and More” section in Google Seach Labs experiment program. However, it didn’t specify video length limits when using video search.
Google first announced this feature earlier this year at GoogleIO for U.S.-based users in English.
Google is pushing multimodal search in India as more people are comfortable using voice or video as a communication medium. The company said more than 40% of Indian language Gemini users in the country chat with the assistant in voice mode. The search company added that India is the largest user base for Google Lens on a monthly basis.
The company first introduced the ability to search by combining both photos and text in 2021 to save people from the trouble of typing out difficult to describe objects. In 2022, Google brought the multimodal search seach feature to India.
