Myths About Data Recovery – AllTopStartups

One of the biggest nightmares out there for any company is to lose important data. The feeling of knowing that your data is gone is a horrible one. While you can use a service like AnyTech365, it is important to know what kind of myths are floating out there about data recovery. Knowing this can prevent catastrophic losses later on. Here are a few of those to consider and the preventative measures you can take against them.

You Should Use A Solid-State Hard Drive

A regular hard drive has a lot of moving parts in it. That can lead to corruption. On the other hand, a solid-state one has no moving parts. That means they can’t be damaged physically. That’s a win, right?  Not necessarily. It can still be corrupted due to how you use it for storing data and how it collects garbage. There is no stopping the solid-state drive from eventually failing … all drives eventually fail.

The best solution is to have an online backup in the cloud. That way, when you get any new hardware, you can simply get that data from the cloud and keep yourself up and running. Being too reliant on just one way of storing data is inviting disaster.

Software Can Fix Hard Drive Issues

If you’re having a problem with your hard drive, just use a software program to fix it. Simple solution, right? Not if you can’t access the hard drive. The software won’t even be able to touch it.

There is a chance that software can possibly do something if you are able to access the hard drive. You are also running the risk of having your physically damaged drive get even more damaged when you run the at-home data recovery software. You also run the risk of overwriting things with that software.  Both of these are a big risk, so your best bet would be to just take it to a data recovery specialist.

Put Your Damaged Hard Drive In a Freezer

Yes, people used to do this back in the 1990s, when hard drive technology was not as advanced as it is now. The thing was, the freezers they used then were different than a typical refrigerator freezer. If you were to put your hard drive in your freezer, moisture would make its way in and cause other problems. Instead, contact a data recovery company and take the hard drive there. They will know what to do to get the data back.

Your Deleted Data Is Gone Forever

While there are some operating systems and file systems that can delete things forever, you can usually get data back. Once you delete a file, that empty space is waiting for something else to overwrite it. When that happens, it is gone. So, if something gets deleted by mistake, you should unplug the computer and take it to a data recovery center.

A Data Recovery Company Will Fix Your Hard Drive

No, a data recovery analyst will not give you a functional hard drive when they are finished. Their job is to get it working just well enough to be able to get the missing information off of it and then onto whatever media you want it to be stored on. You will then have to properly transfer it into your system.

There are other myths, like using a RAID array is better than any other backups, or that the United States Government has better recovery tech than we do. In any case, the best bet is to contact a data recovery center. Otherwise, you could be facing data loss that would seriously damage your business. At least you can possibly have a happy ending with a data recovery specialist.
