Nazara acquires ‘Love Island’ games creators Fusebox Games for $27.2M in all-cash deal

Gaming and sports media company Nazara Technologies has acquired UK-based Fusebox Games Limited for Rs 228 crore ($27.2 million) in an all-cash deal.

Fusebox is the maker of the interactive story game ‘Love Island’ based on the popular British TV show of the same name that places a group of contestants, known as “Islanders,” in a luxurious villa, where they live together while trying to form romantic connections.

Nazara claims the studio has shown strong growth, with year-to-date revenues of Rs 116.6 crore ($13.9 million) and EBITDA of Rs 33.3 crore ($4.0 million) in 2024.

“We see a large opportunity in building an IP-based global gaming business that benefits from our core base in India where we can support global studios through enhanced user acquisition strategies, data analytics, live operations and new initiatives such as implementing our in-house AI playbook,” Nitish Mittersain, Founder and CEO of Nazara said in a statement.

“Many of our existing IPs are good examples of this strategy and we are happy to join forces with the talented team at Fusebox as we continue to build Nazara into a global gaming company of meaningful scale,” Mittersain added.

The gaming company has made several strategic acquisitions recently to diversify and strengthen its portfolio in recent months.

The company successfully bid for sports simulation and gamification technologies Smaaash Entertainment through the corporate insolvency resolution process, The Hindu reported on Thursday.

Nazara had also increased its stake in Nextwave, developers of the World Cricket Championship, and fully acquired Paper Boat Apps, creators of the children’s app Kiddopia, for Rs 300 crore.

Additionally, Nazara’s subsidiary Absolute Sports acquired DeltiasGaming.com’s assets for $900,000. The subsidiary had also secured the IP rights to Ultimate Teen Patti from Games24X7 for Rs 10 crore.
