The Hague-based live streaming platform, Edge Video, announced on Monday the launch of Watch2Earn platform, which pays viewers a percentage of the advertising revenue in exchange for time watched.
The Watch2Earn platform is powered by the Edge Web3 Video Network, which pays viewers periodically for watching TV in Edge Activity Tokens (crypto or $EAT) throughout the day.
EDGE Video says viewers can earn crypto by following the below rules:
- Watching TV
- Make sure that the sound is on
- Watching in the foreground
- Sharing the channel with their friends
- Answering questions about the content or advertising
“Viewers can hold onto them if they want to help drive up the price through sharing or sell them for cash on the listed exchanges,” writes the company.
From the TV station’s point of view, the results thus far have been a massive win, claims the company. The first results show a 9x increase in advertising revenue from continuous and meaningful engagement.
“Watch2Earn is the real deal,” says Joe Ward, CEO of Edge Video. “The viewers are now engaging at a level which is a bit like a bank account being connected to your TV – you reward the TV station with your viewing, and they pay you back in crypto. Soon you will be able to buy pay-per-view movies and TV shows or elect to watch ad-free TV with it.”
Ward continues, “We’re extremely excited by the programme results thus far. The integration of cryptocurrency and content creation is where we’re headed. It will increase crypto adoption, expand the Web3 ecosystem, and enhance monetisation opportunities of that content in new and interesting ways.”
Edge Video: What you need to know
Edge Video aims to revolutionise the streaming experience with Watch2Earn on the Edge Web3 Video Network. The platform employs web3 technology and a secure, transparent, and decentralised system to offer a unique user experience.
Rather than paying for a better ad-free streaming experience on a streaming platform, Edge Video allows viewers to earn risk-free cryptocurrency, the Edge Activity Token ($EAT), simultaneously improving their viewing engagement by 500 per cent.
Edge Video says its token ($EAT) can be converted to other cryptocurrencies and then to local currency. To monetise the watch time, viewers need to connect their Metamask e-wallet to EdgeVideo Player, and then, depending on their engagement, they will earn $EAT rewards.
Edge has partnered with channels, including PokerNight Live, Euro News, Allied Esports, and Bloomberg TV, among others.
Edge Watch2Earn platform can be added to any of the 860,000 video streaming sites and apps globally to increase revenue through increased ad consumption and content sharing.
