Zoom hopes to take on Hopin with Zoom Events, also launches Zoom Apps that allows third-party app integration to video calls

Video communication app, Zoom, which rose to the top during the COVID-19 pandemic, has introduced Zoom Apps and Zoom Events as it looks to stay ahead in the post-pandemic world. With this move, the company hopes to make meetings more engaging, productive, and fun.

Attempting to cement its leadership in the video conferencing arena, the company has added third-party integrations, allowing users to use apps while in a zoom call.

“I’m thrilled to see our platform vision expand through Zoom Apps and Zoom Events, as the world embraces hybrid work, empowering the workforce today and into the future,” says Eric S. Yuan, Founder, and CEO of Zoom. “These innovations will enhance the ways in which we connect and collaborate with our colleagues, clients, friends, family members, and others, improving productivity and collaboration while maintaining elements of fun and well-being.”

At launch, around 50 Zoom Apps will be available, from enterprise to consumer use cases. The company promises to add more apps in the upcoming days. To list a few

  • Dot Collector
  • Dropbox Spaces
  • Heads Up!
  • SurveyMonkey Enterprise by Momentive

It is worth mentioning that Zoom launched Zapps last year at Zoom’s 2020 Zoomtopia conference. The App Marketplace already hosts over 1,500 third-party integrations.

However, the existing App Marketplace revolves around integrating Zoom with other apps, whereas Zoom Apps is about integrating apps into Zoom with a click.

To make use of this feature, you need to download/update the latest version of Zoom. Upon downloading/updating, a “Discover” tab under the new Apps side panel will allow you to explore what is available. Users can expand/collapse the panel accordingly during a call to access the app.

Kahoot! partners with Zoom

Oslo-based Kahoot!, a game-based learning platform, has also announced a partnership with Zoom Video Communications, Inc, to integrate the Kahoot! app in Zoom.

Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform that makes it easy to create, share, and play fun learning games or trivia quizzes in minutes. The platform offers learning games in minutes for any subject, in any language, on any device, and for all ages.

Kahoot! app for Zoom enables users to access, host, and play Kahoot! games and learning content with other meeting attendees without ever leaving the Zoom Meeting.

Integrating Kahoot! app with Zoom will let the hosts harness the power of friendly competition and play to drive engagement for all participants.

Further, meeting hosts will have access to data and reporting from their Kahoot! experience, enabling real-time responses based on audience interaction with the content.

“Video communications have become an integral part of keeping people connected in organizations and among family and friends, and Zoom is one of the most popular platforms for our users to host and play Kahoot! games, as well as deliver interactive presentations powered by Kahoot!,” says Eilert Hanoa, CEO, Kahoot!.

Zoom Events

The San Jose-based company also introduced Zoom Events, which enables large and small businesses to manage and host back-to-back event sessions from sales summits, customer events, trade shows, and internal events.

Also, the platform will allow users to build an event hub to manage and share events, registration, attendance, ticket sales, and networking through a chat-enabled virtual event lobby. The events can be kept private or posted to a public directory.

Similar to Meetup and Eventbrite, OnZoom, the consumer-focused Zoom Events solution, offers users a chance to make money from DIY events including, fitness and cooking classes, theatrical presentations, and more.

OnZoom will remain in beta and serve as a place where small businesses and entrepreneurs can host and publish events to our public event directory, says the company.

“Zoom Apps and Zoom Events are critical components in broadening Zoom’s offering and reach,” said Roopam Jain, Vice President, Information and Communications Technologies at Frost & Sullivan. “These solutions empower users to accomplish more with video communications and are a testament to Zoom’s focus of enabling customers to create and grow businesses entirely on its platform—whether through applications, integrations, events, or other services.”
