Raises €2.5M

Meet Nhost, the Swedish startup providing backend-as-a- service (BaaS) for developers. Recently, the startup has raised $3M (approx €2.5M) in a Seed round led by Nauta Capital. 

Other investors including the founders of GitHub (Tom Preston-Werner and Scott Chacon), founders of Netlify (Christian Bach and Mathias Biilmann), the startup’s existing investor, and Antler, participated in the round.

The funding will be deployed to accelerate product development, market strategy and hire new talent across the business. 

Full-fledged serverless backend 

Founded in 2020 by Johan Eliasson and Nuno Pato, Nhost has built an open-source solution that offers a fully functional BaaS and application platform that enables its users to build, deploy, and run scalable backend applications in less than one minute.

Upon registering, the developers get instant access to a packaged stack of open-source components — database, API, storage, user authentication, and hosting. 

The Swedish company is on a mission to be the go-to infrastructure for developers and teams of all sizes. At present, Nhost is used by a range of customers from tech startups and SMBs to agencies and indie hackers. 

Johan Eliasson, CEO, and co-founder explains: “It’s interesting to see how much innovation is happening in usability on the frontend with tools like Netlify and Vercel, but not as much in the backend, which is what we are trying to change. I’ve spent my career building small and large apps for myself and for clients.
