Job hunting is hard. It works in itself – there’s all that cover letter writing and résumé tweaking, not to mention the sheer number of interviews you’ll have to go through. It’s incredibly common these days for tech companies to have multiple rounds of interviews so that you can meet with people from different teams within the business to assess your skills across a number of competencies – your technical abilities, culture fit, and motivation, for example.
If, after all that, you don’t get the role you’ve gone for, it can be incredibly demoralising. But it is important to remember that the process does take time: a 2018 study ascertained that it takes around five months to land a job.
Within those five months, on average, you’ll create four different edited versions of a CV (as well as four cover letters), submit seven job applications, and attend five job interviews. So what can you do to refine your process?
Ask for feedback
It is not the nicest thing to have to do, but you should ask the hiring manager or recruiter for some feedback on your interview. You may not love what you hear, but thank them for their time and try to take their feedback on board for your next interview round.
Refine your CV
One of the reasons you may not even be getting interviews in the first place is down to one simple reason: you’re not adding keywords from the job description into your CV. Hiring managers are busy, often recruiting for multiple roles at the same time, so they rely on screening software to refine candidates for interviews. If your CV doesn’t have key skills that match the job’s responsibilities and requirements, you’re already at a disadvantage.
Pick yourself up
It’s hard, but getting a new job is a numbers game. Depending on the job, a typical employer will interview six to ten candidates for a job from all the applications it receives, and candidates will go through a minimum of two or three rounds of interviews before receiving an offer. Focus on your strengths, work on any feedback received, and get back out there.

The Role: Aiven’s partner team is looking for a Partner Solution Architect to join the global team to create an exponential distribution of Aiven products and work with the sales team on pre-sales and post-sales motion.
