15 Amsterdam-based fintech startups that raised more than €1M in 2021 and are hiring right now


As fintech gains momentum with each passing year, there is an enormous demand for professionals with specific fintech skill sets, globally. 

According to Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC), the Netherlands is one of the popular destinations for finance expats on a global level for multiple reasons. Amsterdam, in particular, has a rich history of financial innovation.

At present, Amsterdam is the centre of the Dutch banking sector and a force in fintech, making it one of Europe’s leading financial centres, says I amsterdam. 

In 2021, numerous Amsterdam-based startups have raised fundings and a handful of them have raised more than €1M. We have compiled a list of 15 such Amsterdam startups that raised capital and are currently hiring talents. 

Sprinque

Sprinque

Founder/s: Juan Espinosa, Mark Holleman, Manoj Tutika

Fundraised in 2021: €1.8M

Sprinque is a B2B checkout platform for merchants & marketplaces that offers a SaaS payment solution tailored to businesses’ needs. The company has built a digital checkout infrastructure to make business transactions as frictionless as ordering something from a consumer webshop. 

In September, the company raised €1.7M funding from Volta Ventures and Force Over Mass. Right now, the fintech company is hiring. If interested, you can check the openings here.

BUX

BUX

Founder/s: Egbert Pronk, Joost van de Wijgerd, Nick Bortot, and Robbert Bos

Fundraised in 2021: €66.47M

BUX is a neo broker and lets people invest in Exchange-Traded Funds (ETF) and shares without paying commissions. It currently offers three apps to explore the financial markets – BUX Zero, BUX Crypto, and BUX X. 

In April, the company raised $80M (approx €66.47M) funding in a round led by Prosus Ventures and Tencent. The fintech company is hiring for various positions in Amsterdam and London. If you are interested, check out the open positions here

Orderchamp

Fundraised in 2021: €16.6M

Orderchamp is a marketplace that brings independent retailers and brands together to provide wholesale service for local communities. The Amsterdam-based scaleup offers an assortment of more than 200,000 products from over 1,800 different European brands. 

In May, the company raised $20M (approx €16.6M) funding in a Series A round led by Prime Ventures.

Fraudio

Fundraised in 2021: €2.7M

Fraudio focuses on helping companies in the payment ecosystem to fight payment fraud and financial crime through AI, machine learning, and multi-dataset network effects. 

The Amsterdam company has built a cloud-native centralised AI and Machine Learning payment fraud detection solution.

Mollie

Mollie

Founder/s: Adrian Mol 

Funding raised in 2021: €672M

The Amsterdam company is on a mission to make online payment simple for merchants by taking away the complexity. Mollie offers an easy-to-implement process for integrating payments into a site or app.

In June, the Dutch company secured $800M (approx €672M) in a Series C funding round led by Blackstone Growth (BXG). 

Mollie is looking for people in various job positions, including Business IT, Engineering, and more in Amsterdam, Lisbon, Germany, and Paris. Check the open positions  here.

Sentinels

Funding raised in 2021: €5.7M

Sentinels is a spin-off from Slimmer AI, a Groningen-based B2B AI venture studio. 

Using AI and machine learning, the platform helps fintech, payment service providers, remittance companies, and (challenger) banks manage risk and fulfill their compliance obligations. 

It also monitors transactions, builds behavioural profiles, detects suspicious activity, and automatically generates recommended next steps.

Change Invest

Funding raised in 2021: €3.7M 

Change Invest is a cryptocurrency investing platform for retail investors. The fintech platform enables users to invest as little as €10 into cryptocurrencies, stocks, and other assets.

Funding raised in 2021: €2M

Based out of Amsterdam, Dyme enables users to keep track of their expenses and provides a clear overview of their fixed expenses. The app automatically detects subscriptions and hidden fees, and enables users to cancel or change any contract with a single click.

Funding raised in 2021: €193M

bunq is an independent bank that offers mobile banking with no branch visits, no queues, no paperwork. Users can share bank accounts with whomever they want and pay with worldwide Maestro and Mastercards wherever they go.

In July, the company raised €193M in a funding round led by Pollen Street Capital at a valuation of €1.6B. The company is hiring right now in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Brussels, Sofia, and Madrid for various departments. Check open positions here.

Carbon Equity

Carbon Equity

Funding raised in 2021: €1.2M

Carbon Equity is a climate investing platform for alternative investments. The Dutch company is on a mission to accelerate the transition towards a fossil fuel-free future by investing billions of dollars in climate technology.

Funding raised in 2021: €5M

Peaks is an investing platform that lets anyone invest their spare money starting from €1. The company believes that everyone with a bank account, a little money, and some patience, can start investing. 

In September, the company raised €5M in its growth capital from two Dutch investors, Haerlem Capital and Rithmeester.

Ohpen aims to free banks from their legacy systems and processes. The company claims its cloud-based core banking engine is completely reliable, adaptable, and compliant. 

The company offers power savings, investment, mortgage, loan, and pension products for clients including Aegon, Knab, Robeco, Nationale-Nederlanden, BCM Global, CMIS, Volksbank, and LeasePlan Bank.

Recharge.com provides fast, safe, and simple top-ups for consumers via its partnerships with brands such as Apple iTunes, Spotify, and Netflix, among others. The platform serves over 3 million customers with sales of over $500M growing at 50 per cent year-on-year.

BridgeFund is an online business platform that offers fast business credit to SMEs without the intervention of a bank. The company offers credits up to € 250,000 at an interest of 1.3 per cent per month. 

In October, the company raised €20M in growth capital from the Dutch family office.

Fundraised in 2021: €10.6M

Convious is the all-in-one platform built exclusively for the leisure industry. It enables them to connect with their customers directly thereby enhancing their experience and increasing conversions while managing all operations in a single place.
