Union Budget 2024: Live Updates

As the Budget Session of Parliament commenced on Wednesday, January 31, President Droupadi Murmu addressed a joint session at the new Parliament building. In her address, the President commended the government for its achievements during the year and hoped that the new seat of democracy would be witness to policy discussions towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ in the Amrit Kaal of independence.

“My government acknowledges the contribution of wealth creators and believes in the capabilities of India’s private sector. We are committed to creating a conducive environment for doing business in India, and the government is consistently working towards this goal,” said the President in her address.

She further added that Viksit Bharat will be erected on the pillars of youth power, women power, farmers, and the poor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the President’s address highlights the collective strength of 140 crore Indians.

“The Budget Session began with Rashtrapati Ji’s extensive and insightful address highlighting the collective strength of 140 crore Indians, seen in a series of feats our nation has achieved. The Address also highlighted the vision of further developing India in the coming years,” said Modi.

All eyes are now on the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who will be presenting the interim budget on February 1, 2024. The vote on account budget will serve as a guideline, with the full budget to be presented by the newly elected government after the Lok Sabha polls are concluded later this year.
