What to Consider When Looking For an Addiction Treatment Facility

Have you finally had enough of your loved one’s heartbreaking addiction? Are you ready to take serious action to get them back to wellness so they can have their life back? You don’t have to do it on your own. Treatment facilities are there to give them the help they need.

It’s unfortunate that treatment facilities have to exist because it means that there are people who are suffering from substance abuse. At the same time, however, it is fortunate that these institutions are around to help carry out the very challenging task of getting a substance abuser better.

Before you commit to any one facility, though, you should do research to find out more about what typical services are offered, what treatment plans are available, and how in-patients are going to be treated in the facility.

Here’s a quick overview of what you should look for in an addiction treatment facility to help you choose the right place for your loved one.

Length of Program

Depending on the severity of the case, the individual might need either a short-term or long-term program. A short-term program can be as short as a few several weekends for outpatients, or a couple of weeks as an in-patient.

A long-term program is more rigid in the sense that the subject will be an in-patient, which means they cannot go outside the property during treatment, and will have to stay for at least several weeks to months. Some even stay beyond a year.

See what are the available options of the facility so you can determine if they will be able to accommodate the needs of your loved one.

Treatment Plan

Inevitably, you have to look at the length of the program alongside the contents of the program. It’s good to have a clear understanding of the process that your loved one will go through, you can have a better appreciation of their journey.

Keep in mind that the rehab facility can give them all the tools they need to get better, but unless the individuals themselves fully accept these methods, it’s not going to work. As someone close to the patient, you can expect that you will also have a part in their treatment program at some point in time. Determine for yourself how much involvement you want to have in the program as well.

Staff Quality

This is an important consideration because you would want to leave your loved ones in the hands of trustworthy professionals. They will be the ones directly in charge of the patient’s well-being, so it’s only right that you make sure they’re up for the job.

Look at their qualifications, ask about their experiences working in the facility, and try to gauge from there how they handle certain situations. They are a crucial component in the success of the program, after all.

Facilities

It’s going to be a very challenging journey for your loved one, for sure. At the very least, you need to make sure that the setting will be suitable for them. Check the comfort level of accommodations, as well as the security on the grounds.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be luxurious though, as much as it is functional and practical. While some rehab facilities will go to great lengths to make it look and feel like a resort, keep in mind that ultimately, it’s the effectiveness of the treatment program that should matter most.
