German bootstrapped and profitable HRtech startup Workwise raises €12M for scaling and hiring

Karlsruhe, Germany-based Workwise, a startup that aims to simplify job search and recruiting, announced on Tuesday that it has raised €12M in its Series A round of funding. The round saw participation from Karlsruhe-based LEA Partners and Munich-based Armira Growth.

Speaking on the development, Nils Seele, Principal at LEA Partners, says, “We have known Martin and Jannik for three years now – it is amazing what the two of them and the entire Workwise team have built up over the past years without investors. By offering tech-enabled recruiting, Workwise solves the problems of SMEs. We are very excited about this idea and the 3,000 Workwise customers speak for themselves.”

Capital utilisation

Workwise claims that the proceeds from this round will be used primarily for faster scaling, further development of the product and expansion of the team. The startup claims to be bootstrapped up until now and managed to become profitable on its own.

By the end of 2022, the team is expected to grow from 140 to 200 employees, and then to 300  next year.

Workwise CEO Martin Trenkle says, “Over the last few years, we have reached a very good position through successful bootstrapping and constant growth. We have been in a promising exchange with LEA Partners and Armira Growth for some time. Now we want to take the next step of our expansion and are very happy to welcome such experienced partners by our side, who will support us with fresh funds and provide the know-how to reach a new level as a company.”

“Making recruiting and job hunting easy”

Founded in 2015 by Martin Trenkle and Jannik Keller, Workwise (previously, Campusjäger) provides organisations with all the important tools required to find suitable team members.

The company says, “Our holistic solution combines access to channels for greater reach with an applicant management system for a better overview and more efficiency. We go into individual processes and advise companies so that they can set up digital and applicant-friendly recruiting.”

For job seekers, Workwise claims to simplify application processes and career planning through its intuitive platform; which means, a profile for all applications, fast communication channels, and short, precise questions instead of letters.

Currently, Workwise has more than 3,000 customers and more than 300,000 job seekers use the platform.
