After the sudden ban of the popular battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) in India, South Korean game developer Krafton is reportedly changing the location of BGMI servers.
The server of the battle royale title is shifting from India-Singapore to India-Malaysia, InsideSport reported.
It is to be noted that Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was taken down from Google Play Store and Apple Store in India in July end. The game was delisted from Google Play Store and Apple Store on July 28.
As the BGMI had a huge number of users in India, fans in the country were speculating about the return of BGMI in the country. However, amid speculations, the developer has not shared any confirmation or statement on the comeback of BGMI yet.
Many players observed that specific player IDs are not showing in the in-game search results. And a migration notice is coming up, while the IDs are visible in the ranking table when gamers browse in the in-game search box, the report added.
“The player you are viewing has migrated to Battlegrounds Mobile India,” the migration notice read. This similar kind of prompt notice was reflected during the PUBG Mobile-BGMI data transfer as well.
Although India has been a large market for BGMI or the Indian version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PubG), regulatory uncertainty seems to be a concern for Krafton for a long time now.
While BGMI came back to the Indian market in July 2021 after PUBG was banned in 2020, the game touched 100 Mn registered users in India in July 2022. BGMI was reportedly pulled down from Google and Apple stores following a government order.
A report by a central intelligence agency and a letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to MeitY caused the latest ban, as per reports.
The app was communicating with servers directly or indirectly located in China, a News18 report said quoting a source. The decision to take down the game from both of the app marketplaces was taken following multiple rounds of analysis by Indian agencies.
Considerably, Krafton announced its plans to invest over $100 Mn in the Indian startup ecosystem. Gaming startups Nodwin Gaming, Loco, Nautilus Mobile, Indian storytelling platform Pratilipi, audio content platform Kuku FM, are some of the startups which have received investment from Krafton.
