Gurugram-based online travel company MakeMyTrip has launched limited edition non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of India’s myriad landscapes, varied flora and fauna. The artworks have been conceptualised and designed to commemorate some of the popular travel destinations of the country.

The first batch of these digitally crafted artworks unravel landscapes of Goa, Ladakh, Orissa, Himachal, Kashmir, Kerala, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, and Andamans.

MakeMyTrip will be passing on all proceeds from the sale of these NFTs to support projects focusing on promoting sustainable tourism in the country.

“The limited edition NFTs are a confluence of new-age technology with the world of travel as it captures the beauty of some of the exotic locations of India. We are offering travel enthusiasts a never before chance to be owners of this beauty in the digital domain,” said Sunil Suresh, group chief marketing officer, MakeMyTrip.

Founded in 2000 by Deep Kalra, MakeMyTrip offers services and products in the travel segment including air ticketing, hotel and alternative accommodations bookings, holiday planning and packaging, and rail ticketing. It owns and operates online brands such as Goibibo and redBus.

“These NFTs are in line with our overall marketing and communication objective of inspiring every Indian to discover and explore the majestic beauty of India,” Suresh added.

The company said, AI Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) is being used to design artwork. The artwork is conceptualised and designed by AI Bots, an online community of digital artists.

Overall, the limited-edition artwork will present a kaleidoscopic metaworld view of the explored and the relatively less explored destinations in the country.

Of late, messaging app Hike also launched NFT virtual profile displays called Rush Avatar NFTs, on its blockchain gaming platform – Rush Gaming Universe. The company will initially be sending ‘launch edition’ NFTs to the most active players on the platform.

In January this year, licensed digital collectible platform Fantico rolled out a new list of Bollywood collectables including NFTs of singer Javed Akhtar’s handwritten lyrics, and a Versace jacket worn by actor Akshay Kumar in a movie. These digital assets were said to be auctioned paired with the physical piece of memorabilia it has tokenised.

In September 2021, travel startup Zo World rolled out a quest-like platform, built on the premise of NFT geography cards. The startup would further expand its central team with these NFT Zomad cards; hiring engineers, designers, creators as well as on-ground support across all countries.
